Traditional Naturopathy Licensing

The Commission has established regulations for the licensure of traditional naturopaths based on feedback from attorneys, professional naturopaths, colleges and universities offering courses in naturopathy, certification board executives, governmental regulatory agencies, existing licensing boards and legislators.

Regulations Pertaining to Traditional Homeopathy Licensure

The requirements to become a Licensed Traditional Naturopath are intended to demonstrate competency in naturopathy, skill in the delivery of naturopathy services, and knowledge of the limitations of both.

  1. Section 100 - Professional Preparation

  2. Section 200 - Professional Conduct

  3. Section 300 - Scope of Practice

  4. Section 400 - Professional Internship

  5. Section 500 - License Examination and Preparation

  6. Section 600 - Requirements for Renewal of License
Licensure examinations will be scheduled starting January 2009. No examinations will be offered prior to that time. Please follow the directions given on the Register page to apply for a new license or follow instructions to Renew your license.

Important Information

Traditional Naturopath licenses are not available in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Utah, Vermont and Washington. These states have their own medical naturopath license boards. It is illegal in Alabama and South Carolina for any person to practice naturopathy.

Traditional Naturopath licenses are not available in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Traditional Naturopath licenses are not available in Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands.

These states, provinces and countries currently have their own naturopathic licensing boards. Candidates from these jurisdictions are barred from taking our examination or grandfathering at this time. When our license becomes available in these jurisdictions, we will make special arrangements with qualified practicing naturopaths to be grandfathered at that time.
